In May of 2021, Ithaca passed an energy code supplement that requires net-zero buildings that don’t use fossil fuels starting in 2026. There are exceptions for cooking and process energy, but we hope they can strengthen this policy in the future. Also of note, Ithaca is pioneering a strategy of raising money via private investors to climate proof buildings, with over 100M raised so far.
