In October 2021, the City Council in Antioch directed staff to craft an ordinance that would ban oil and gas drilling within city limits. In 2022 the ordinance passed unanimously. Antioch is the second largest city in Contra Costa County, and passage of this ordinance added momentum to a push for the Board of Supervisors to enact a countywide drilling ban.
In 2023, the City Council began discussing a prohibition of new gas stations.
