Following its adoption of a climate emergency resolution in 2020, the county of Contra Costa Board of Supervisors continued to move forward on its climate goals in 2021 by voting 4-1 in favor of draft an amendment to the building code. The Board asked for new additions to the building code, including the requirement for all new buildings to be run solely using electric power and the prohibition of natural gas piping in buildings. In January 2022, The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors approved an ordinance to ban natural gas from new buildings.
