In September of 2020, Los Altos passed a policy limiting gas in buildings, block most gas appliances in all new buildings, but allowing methane gas stoves and fireplaces to be built into single family homes and multi-family complexes under 10 units. While we’d like to see the city extend the policy and protect the health and safety of those in single family and low density multi-family homes as well, this policy is still a win for this community and the climate. This reach code was updated with clearer language in 2022. In March 2022, Los Altos city council passed a climate action plan with goals including phasing out small off-road fossil fuel engines, switching transportation from fossil fuels to clean energy, and moving to renewable electric energy in buildings and residences.
Los Altos passed a climate resolution and a building electrification policy.
