Montes de Oca endorsed the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty.

In November 2021, Montes de Oca became one of seven municipalities in Costa Rica to declare its intentions to become a fossil-free area. Thanks to the work of activists in the area, the municipality is now one of many international locations endorsing the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty.
