The County Council of the most populous county in Maryland – composed of 1.1 million people – unanimously passed this measure that would require new buildings to be nearly all-electric 2026. They overcame opposition from Washington Gas, Pepco, and local chambers of commerce to deliver this massive victory for people and the planet.
In a first for the state of Maryland, Montgomery County approved a near ban of fossil fuels in new buildings.
