At the end of May 2024, thanks to pressure of Oxnard residents and local student activists, the Oxnard City Council adopted a resolution calling for the end of oil and gas drilling in California. The resolution also upheld the law requiring a safety buffer zone between oil drilling and homes and schools, which will be included on the November 2024 ballot referendum.
