In June 2021, the California State Capitol of Sacramento joined the growing list of places electrifying new construction. With this policym, new construction under three stories needed to be all-electric starting in 2023, and all construction will needed to meet the same requirements beginning in 2026.

The city also is working on existing building electrification policies to ensure and equitable transition away from methane gas.
