Seattle passed a building new construction electrification policy in 2021 and groundbreaking existing buildings policy in 2023.

In February of 2021, Seattle became the first city in Washington to meaningfully limit fracked gas in new buildings with stringent building codes that increase efficiency and require electric heating/cooling in large buildings. Because of their close proximity and overlap, SAFE Seattle and SAFE King County groups are currently one and the same.

 

In December of 2023, Seattle City Council passed the historic Building Emissions Performance Standard.
